Why Protein?
Protein is NECESSARY to maintain our bodies, build muscle, and age gracefully.
Carbs and fats are OPTIONAL to satisfy our ENERGY needs.
We're a society generally with ENERGY TOXICITY, meaning we have excess energy (glycogen & fat) stored in our bodies. This causes inflammation leading to diseases such as adult onset diabetes, alzheimer's, and general feelings of poor mental and physical wellbeing.
I, like Ted Naiman, propose we focus on PROTEIN, and secondarily, on ENERGY (carbs and fat).
In this way, we can prioritize building lean mass, which enables our bodies to thrive, while avoiding inflammation and weight gain from excess energy.
EveryBODY is unique, and we all have different protein and energy needs.
Generally, it's widely accepted by leading researchers like Dr. Stuart Phillips, that we get about 1 gram of protein per pound of lean body mass per day (weighing 150lbs, that's 115g/day).
Peter Attia, who is leading the charge on extending our healthspan (meaning an active, functional, and long lifespan), also recommends focusing on protein intake. This focus on protein allows us aging humans to keep doing the things we love into old age, such as picking up our grandkids and tossing them in the air with control at age 80. Like myself, he personally adds a protein shake to his daily nutrition to make sure he hits his ideal protein intake.
Focusing on protein consumption is a great start, but to get maximal benefits, we also have to lift heavy things, AKA resistance training, AKA getting in the gym and doing squats, pushing and pulling motions, and stressing our muscles. This triggers the stimulus our bodies need to build and maintain healthy muscle, stability, and stave off diseases like sarcopenia.
If you're interested in more about sarcopenia, the age related loss of muscle mass, I'd urge you to listen to Ken Ford's chat with Stu Phillips on muscle and protein on the STEMtalk Podcast
So it comes down to...
- How do you get your protein?
- Are you consuming enough?
- Are you challenging your muscles sufficiently?
All of these are needed to live long, functional, and enjoyable lives and thrive at our optimal capacity.
We try to help you in this journey by providing a simple, unique, and sustainable protein that is handled well by almost every human's digestive system. We all need protein and this ready to mix protein powder is the only protein you'll ever need.
We'd love to learn about how you get your protein in order to develop a better product for YOU. If you'd like to guide our product creation, please take a minute to give us your input about YOUR IDEAL PROTEIN.
